Team White Rice & Minute Rice Giveaway!

Some people are surprised to see that I eat “white rice” – and hear my stance on it. That’s okay, because at first I was a bit surprised too. To me, rice is indeed a real food and can offer benefits as a part of a balanced diet. Let me explain a little…

White rice is an easily digested source of starch (carbohydrates) and can work for a lot of people. Like oats, rice works for me (I tolerate it soooo much better than other grains – even brown rice) and provides me with a source of glucose to fuel my body and physical endeavors. I don’t think rice should replace more nutrient-dense food choices or be consumed in massive all-you-can-eat-Chinese-buffet portions. But if you are in training, looking to increase body composition or needing another easily tolerable source of carbohydrate, then it is a great option (especially in the post-workout period, due to its’ higher glycemic index).

As much as I could totally eat sweet potatoes and other starchy veggies 24/7, it’s nice to change things up every once and awhile.

Minute Rice Aromatic Family LR

When Minute Rice® Aromatic Rice approached me to try out their new products, I made sure to do my research because food that is “instant” or “fast cooking” is often further processed, which I am not a huge fan of. But I am a big fan of kitchen short-cuts, keeping things simple and doing the best that you can – and sometimes I slack on my food prep game and need carbs stat.

Minute Rice is dried to make it more convenient to cook (ready in 10 minutes!) and is available in two varieties: Basmati Rice and Jasmine Rice. The Basmati Rice is a long-grain rice with a subtle nutty flavor grown in the foothills of the Himalayas while the Jasmine Rice is from the high plateaus of Thailand with a bit of a floral scent.

They are both delicious and super easy to make. Each box has 4 pouches (4 suggested servings per pouch), which is convenient and keeps the grain fresh.

It’s great on its’ own as a side or in a bowl of food – I love making a stir-fry fried rice with coconut oil, grass-fed ground beef, an egg, veggies, spices and coconut aminos.

  1. I love how you explained your stance on this. I haven’t eaten rice in a really long time, and I actually sort of forgot about it as a source of carbs while marathon training. I’ve been trying to eat potatoes, squash, bananas, etc as carbs during training but like you said its good to change things up once in awhile. Plus being easy to digest makes it a great option for runners!

  2. The basmati and the jasmine are the two most beneficial ones to eat my doctor has told me. Also, most paleo people I know throw a little white rice into their mix. A Korean healer I know swears by it mixed with good oil as very nurturing to the digestive tract. Little did we all know brown rice was loaded with arsenic and contained a hull that doesn’t allow its nutrients to be obtained by the body. The jokes on all of us. My daughter travelled an entire summer in China and Hong Kong and never saw a grain of brown rice anywhere. Love this post so honest as always. Happy Friday to you!
