Hi friends and happy Friday!
Anyone want to petition for permanent four-day work weeks? Sounds pretty awesome to me.
As per, the doctor’s orders my workouts were pretty non-existent this week except for some light biking. This drove me nuts at first (I hateeee resting) but today I sit here typing realizing that rest was exactly what my mind, body and knee needs in order to be as ready as I can be for Sunday. I also feel much more worldly now that I watched CNN every morning while cycling. America, your politics still confuse me.
My knee is certainly not perfect but it’s better than yesterday and better than the day before. I am nervous. Before I got hurt, my goal was to finish in under two hours (I was on pace for 1:55-1:57) but that’s not very likely right now. I finally feel okay accepting this and thankful that my body is able to run at all — still crossing my fingers though.
I recently read Carly’s post on the numbers game. (How have I not read Carly’s blog before?!) One line really struck a chord with me:
“I craved concrete measures of my success as a human being.”
I apologize if this theme of “numbers” continues to arise but it is just so relevant.
My past athletic success was largely defined by numbers: games won, games lost, 3-point percentage, free-throw percentage, number of turnovers, number of suicides to run, number of single guys on the men’s team, number of cat-fights in the locker room… here we go again…
It takes baby steps in order to eliminate numbers. Last week, I ditched the scale… yup it’s still in the closet! This week has forced me to ditch the mileage and time.
My NEW goals for Sunday: have fun, finish and enjoy the experience. Ready or not, let’s do this.
I hope you have a wonderfully speedy Friday and a fabulous weekend.
P.S. I did some blog updating on my “journeys”. If you are super bored and looking for a little light reading, I wrote about my weight loss, food and fitness adventures. I’d love to get your thoughts.
